Goats, Nature’s strimmers!

At Metaremåla, our goal is to restore, maintain and enhance the beauty of an open forest farm in a natural way. Goats are expert browsers and therefore perfect for keeping bushes and undergrowth under control.

We source ours locally, from Framtida Bruk Gårdsmejeri in Slansmåla, a small farm nearby producing award-winning goats’ milk cheese. Each year we take a number of billy kids to replenish our stock. They come to us when they are around 10 weeks old and spend their entire lives here, eating grass and bushes in a tranquil pasture. After 1-2 years their lives are ended humanely on the premises, after which the meat is used to produce delicious gulasch, burgers, sausages and more. The skins are sent to a local tannery. Each one is unique, all are beautiful.

Poultry and eggs, free-range, delicious and 100% bio!

Our mixture of mainly Muscovy ducks, and Amrok, Legbar, Cochin and ‘mongrel’ chicken are great at keeping the garden and farmyard free of bugs and weeds. We try to avoid commercial food as much as possible and instead feed cooked scraps and grain.

We are able to offer free-range eggs pretty much all year round. Given that we breed our own, we always have excess drakes and roosters; for the sake of the hens, these have to be either culled or sold at the age of 6 - 9 months. The difference in taste between mass-produced and free-range (both eggs and birds) is phenomenal, just try!
